The Ghosts of Christmas Present
River Town Paranormal Society experienced an amazing event yesterday that is so fitting into this holiday season that we would like to share it with our readers. We have been trying to finish up an investigation of a home in Clayton, Illinois, where the family has experienced much activitiy. They were not comfortable living in the home with doors slamming, chairs moving, items being moved across rooms and the overall feeling of something watching them. Our investigation of the home supplied us with enough reason to believe there was something going on in their home and it was time to find help.
Last month we met a couple through our website that are truly incredible. They are both mediums and have worked in the paranormal field for quite some time. Luckily for our team they have moved into our area and are willing to work with us and others on spirit rescue from haunted sites. They agreed to come look at the Cunningham house for us after our investigation came up with evp after evp, plus the family’s daughter has moved back into the house, spiraling more activity. Les and Greg Haslem are the mediums and true professionals with a great concern for this family being able to take control of their home once again. It was a pleasure to watch them work with the house, the family and the spirits who also reside there.
The Haslems found 4 spirits in the home on Saturday. You will be able to read about the investigation and the follow up with the Haslems soon on our investigation page. However, what was so touching to us and we are pretty sure to the Cunninghams is the spirit of two children who are living in this home. Les and Greg found the children downstairs by the Cunninghams Christmas tree, surrounded by presents, lights and stockings. The children were there at the house because they had at one time visited this home when they were young and felt welcomed there. Both had died within a short time of each other, a sister and a brother, and when they passed they somehow came back to this home. For the Cunninghams it brought great comfort for them to know that the children were sitting around their tree enjoying the lights, the colors and the joy a simple Christmas tree can bring to children, those with us still and those who have crossed. To realize they do not mean any harm to the Cunninghams was also a great relief and so this brings us to another crossroad in paranormal investigating.
Through tv and movies spirits, ghosts, entities are often portrayed as evil harm doing demons. Endless bits of media have shown spirit chidlren as evil beings out to cause harm to those of us in this world. Nothing can be further from the truth. As we have said all along on this website, what we find through our investigating are not demons and evil spirits. What we do find are loved ones, family members, lost souls looking for that feeling of love which meant so much to them when they were in this world. The Haslems brought this home for the Cunninghams yesterday and for this we are grateful. Les talked to the children in a loving way to help them understand what they were doing in this home and to let them know they can leave whenever they are ready.
Different holidays mean different things to all kinds of people. The one overall theme running through holidays however, is family. Whether it is Christmas and sharing this holy day with family members or 4th of July sharing a picnic with family members, family is always the theme. So why couldn’t it be possible for our departed family members to come visit us when we all gather together for a special occasion? This may change our thought processes a little, we may have to reach back a hundred years or more when people did believe their family members came to visit on special occasions. They would honor them this day when all were together so they knew they were well remembered. The children at the Cunningham house are looking for that remembrance as they walk through the house watching the family in their everyday lives. Not to harm them, not to scare them but to be a part of them. We thank the Cunninghams for allowing us to share this experience in their home and we thank the Haslems for shedding much needed light into understanding these children. It was a wonderful experience and enlightened us all, just like the spirit of the holidays does. We all left feeling a little bit happier that these two children would be able to have a very merry Christmas.
